Event Lighting & Maslows Hierarchy of Needs

There are 5 main components to Maslows's Hierarch of needs.  Event lighting can either enhance or detract from these needs.  Proper lighting can create curiosity, wonder, and comfort.  On the other hand improper lighting can be annoying and uncomfortable-and in worst case cause guests to leave or possibly pose a safety risk.  Understanding and addressing the various Psychological impacts of lighting should be an important consideration for every event.

Events can have quite a few Zones.  The Emotional impact and needs for each zone can be quite different.   Placement and type and use of lighting can greatly impact the overall guest experience. Lighting lounge area is quite different than lighting a dance floor for instance.  Remember the color combinations and intensity for each zone can be just as important.

The best lighting design and Equipment is worthless if its not implemented correctly.  Knowing where and when  to choose "Switch" or "Fade" to different colors, and how fast it should is quite important.  Sound activated control or syncing of specific lighting fixtures Can either enhance or detract depending on how its done.   Sound Activated lights look fantastic on the dance floor, but can be distracting during speeches.   Controlling House lighting and additional lighting seamlessly brings it all together.

Make Maslow Proud by remembering and including the 5 hieirchy of needs in your event
